Gallery Walk
A gallery walk is an activity where students walk around the room in groups, present their work as experts and take turn to look at each other’s work. We used it to present our culture boxes in the school library. Everyone could see the different ideas, learn about other cultures, and ask questions. It was a fun and interactive way to share our results.
Afterwards we asked everybody to give some feedback!
How did the gallery walk help you to understand more about the different cultures?
– You could see the things and it was in a small group format so you really could ask and learn.
– I knew the things factually but it was nice to see how they effect everone in society.
– I liked that the students explained everything and not the teachers. That helped me understand
everything better.
– I learned a lot about the way the students live and the culture.
– You get to explain your culture and compare it to others. It’s better to have it explained by a native.
– That everything is different but also connected. We can see that we are all the same in a way.
– Now I can give an identity to each country. Sometimes I don’t know how to identify some
countries, but this gallery walk gave me an idea of how each country is with their traditions and
identity.
– It helped me to widen my perspective of the countries.
– Seeing all the suitcases from different countries helped me understand how diverse the cultures
are.
– The cooperation between the students was good. By preparing this activity they explored facts about
their own background. They were able to tell their co-students interesting knwoledge and fun facts
about their countries.

After designing intercultural boardgames, other students played the games and gave a short feedback!

Some reactions to the project from our new partner IES El Escorial
“Our group of students spent three days learning about and sharing various aspects of German, Dutch, Swedish and Spanish culture.
Cultural diversity, respect for differences and a curiosity to learn are key achievements that our students have internalised thanks to their Erasmus mobility.
As an institution, we have also learnt from the best practices and initiatives we discovered on our trip to Lippstadt.
