PIXEL Learn
PIXEL Learn: Empowering Education with AI
PIXEL Learn: Artificial Intelligence is blessing and curse at the same time. However, there is no way NOT to use it in the classroom or to forbid students to use it (as they will use it anyway). If we do not want the students to use ChatGPT only for cheating, but to improve their individual skills we have to a) be well-informed as teachers about the possibilities and b) find way to integrate AI into the classroom in a productive and tranparent way. This is one of the major goals of the PIXEL project.
AI in secondary and tertiary eduction: Fachhochschule Hamm Lippstadt
When our collegues from Finland, Sweden and the Netherlands came to Lippstadt in autumn 2023 for job-shadowing, we also organised a guided tour plus lecture in the technical college, Fachhochschule Hamm-Lippstadt. They actively integrate AI into their eduction and research, particularly at its Lippstadt campus. It is a very modern campus with labs, well-equipped lecture halls and self-study facilities. Several degree programs are offered that incorporate AI, for example Intelligent Systems Design or Electronic Engineering. We also learned how the college dealt with remote learning during the Corona pandemic, the misuse of AI in academic writing and testing as well as the opportunities of deep learning, tools and further practical applications. Educational workshop at Fachhochschule Hamm-Lippstadt
In September 2024 we had the chance to take part in a fascinating workshop hosted by Fachhochschule Hamm-Lippstadt with a group of students from Lippstadt and Uppsala. The Swedish students were doing a one-week bilateral exchange with Lippstadt at that time and as some of the workshops were in English, they also had the opportunity to learn about AI’s functionalities and implications (although most of them also speak German!)

There were many apllications to try out, including a driving simulator!

Workshop: ChatGPT in the classroom
It’s hard to imagine, but when we started the project with our first meeting in Lippstadt nearly two years ago, ChatGPT was still largely unkwon territory to most of us. As a part of the activities for job-shadowing one of the German colleagues prepared a workshop on how to use ChatGPT in class. As she is a teacher of history, this mainly focusses on tasks dealing with a historical setting. Check it out!
Some more ideas for using ChatGPT in different subejcts.

Workshop: Artificial Intelligence at school
When we stayed in Jakobstad we had the great opportunity to take part in a fabulous workshop with Jonas Carlzon and Nao the robot.

Jonas Carlzon is an educator in Pitea, Sweden, and has been responsible for some great concepts how AI and robotics can be integrated into the classroom. Nao the robot is widely used in education to teach programming, in STEM subjects and also in social-emotional learning. It is able to interact with humans and is compatible with generative AI. During the workshop we were very happy to cimmunicate with Nao and we had a lot of fun. We also learned a lot about using AI at school by trying out many different tools and programmes!
